32Amp Full Electrical Installation UK
If your desired hot tub is a 13Amp Plug&Play, you will NOT need this installation, however for any full power 32Amp hot tub, you will need a fully qualified electrician for your installation. We include the electrician and all parts UK wide for a hassle free service.
Amperage is the amount of power that will be required to operate your Hot Tub. 13 amp is the power that you would more commonly experience within your home (referred to on our site as “plug and Play”). A 32 amp is a much more powerful installation and will require one of our qualified electricians.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
A 13 amp model would attract a single pump whilst 32 amp models allow for multiple pump systems which are responsible for the flow of water through the jets. Also on a 13 amp installation it is not possible for the pump and heater to run simultaneously. For 32 amp installations our electrician will be required to run appropriate cable from your Spa into your electrical fuse box. So while 13 amps are much easier to connect and install they do not attract the extra power and performance of our 32 amp models.
THE LEGAL BIT
As per Government guidelines all of our electrical works in UK households are carried out by a “competent person” and our 32amp installations are only completed by certified electricians. The installation must comply with BS:7671 – “Requirements for Electrical Installations IET Wiring Regulations”, which include the following specifications:
- The hot tub must be hard wired on its own fused spur back to your household consumer unit, not sharing a supply with any other appliances
- The hot tub should be protected by a sufficiently rated MCB (mains circuit breaker) and should cover the maximum amperage pull of the Spa plus 25% to allow for brake torque (i.e. the extra rush of current when pumps are first started). Therefore, a hot tub that has a maximum current draw of 20 amps should be fitted with a 25AMP MCB
- The hot tub should be protected against earth faults by an RCD (Residual Current Device). This is a trip switch which prevents the possibility of an electric shock from damaged or waterlogged cables and connections. A suitable rated 30mA RCD is recommended
- Outdoor cabling should be protected from damage by either laying protective ducting (pc pipe) below ground or by using Steel Wired Armoured (SWA) cable. Your electrician will calculate the size of cable required depending on the loading and the distance from the mains supply
